Home Is The Hunter

The title of this post comes from a poem I learned many years ago by A. E. Housman

Home is the sailor, home from sea:
Her far-borne canvas furled
The ship pours shining on the quay
The plunder of the world.

Home is the hunter from the hill:
Fast in the boundless snare
All flesh lies taken at his will
And every fowl of air.

‘Tis evening on the moorland free,
The starlit wave is still:
Home is the sailor from the sea,
The hunter from the hill.

I post it, because it’s a happy day at AW1 Tim’s house! My son Sean is home on 15 day’s leave. He is assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, and currently deployed to FOB Shank in Afghanistan. He wasn’t expected to be home until June, but his slot was swapped with another’s and he decided to surprise us. Boy did he ever!

Sean has done himself proud over these past few years, overcoming a number of issues to become a squared-away Sky Soldier, recently promoted, and considering reenlisting.

Posting may be light, depending on what we get up to around here  🙂
