US ARMY: 235 Years Old Today.

Today is the 235th birthday of the United States Army, a force unequaled in strength, ability, professionalism and courage among the world’s armies.  I am a great and unabashed admirer of the US Army, except for 2 days each year: The US Navy’s Birthday, and the annual Army/Navy game.

From the Army’s own celebratory page:

Two hundred and thirty-five years ago, the United States Army was established to defend our Nation. From the Revolutionary War to the current operations taking place around the world, our Soldiers remain Army Strong with a deep commitment to our core values and beliefs. This 235th birthday commemorates America’s Army – Soldiers, Families and Civilians – who are achieving a level of excellence that is truly Army Strong. Being Army Strong goes beyond physical endurance and mental preparedness. It encompasses an indomitable spirit, and high ethical and moral values. These are not only desirable traits in a person, but in a Nation that wishes to live up to the ideals and vision of its founders. We are “America’s Army: The Strength of the Nation.”

A lot of great stuff at the link above.

God Bless all our soldiers on this day, both past and present. They are all a national treasure, Columbia’s mighty spear.

Indeed, and that of one of Our greatest heroes, Casimir Pulaski.

God Bless all our Polish Friends, for there is much true blood that bonds both Poland and these United States together. Europe wanted neither of us, yet here we are.

Well, Independent Poland was after all one of the 14 points Wilson created backin WW2… And US volunteer pilots joined 1920 war with Bolshevik Russia.
And truth behind it all is free and independent Poland is simply in deep US strategic interest – Russia expanding too much westwards or Germany dominating central Europe are first steps to continentlal hegemony which is most grave news to the US (and the UK).
Too bad in 1945 Western powers were too war-weary to force Stalin into at least retreating his armies into Soviet Union.

Heh, for the past few years, the Army hasn’t been an “unabashed admirer” of the Army on the day of the Army/Navy game!
