Navy Airdales: Yeah, We’re Lucky Stiffs

Here’s a great old commercial. I haven’t a clue when it was made, but it’s pretty doggone good. It certainly captures the beau ideal that we of the Navy’s Aviation side of the family see ourselves as filling.

BTW: For a great and insightful look at what life was like on liberty for my fellow blueshirts,  There’s a wonderful article from The Goat Locker entitled “Airdale Liberty Bars“.  If you have a few moments, it’s a good read and good gouge. That was my youth.

H/T to my friend Thomas Cheever for the link.

Hilarious. I think cigarette commercials were banned in ’72 or ’73 so it’s at least 40 years old.

At least the Sailors looked like USN Sailors, rather than 3rd World military types in Sea Smurf suits.

Bottle of Mateus red and a ball of Goat’s Cheese and a loaf of bread. Life didn’t get any better than Lajes on a day off. If I were single, I’d be hard pressed to find a better place to retire to. Maybe Rota, or somewhere just outside Seville. But……. yeah. Thanks, Ed.

It’s an Aussie or Brit commercial from around 1996. USS Lexington.
